Talking Harpsichords is an attempt to bring more into focus the world of the harpsichord. Importantly, it is also an expression of appreciation to all those who have helped this traveller achieve the making of some good instruments. In addition, the writer believes that we are, each one of us, and from time to time, entitled to be amused: so may it be.
After completing his first harpsichord more than fifty years ago, harpsichord maker Alastair McAllister continues to be a lover of both the instrument and its music. He has lived through the revolution of instrument making as it related to original building practices, and now feels it is time to attempt a more balanced view of the world of the harpsichord. This book contains personal reflections of some of what has been comprehended from a lifetime of looking closely at the instrument and both hearing and feeling what it has to say.
